If you run Vavoom with a new wad without the -opengl switch, it will build GL nodes (GWA) but it will take a very long time. Using the -opengl switch makes GL nodes build much faster. Does a GWA really need to be built if the player is not using opengl mode? If so, can it be built quickly in software rendering mode like in opengl mode? edit: Bug seems to occur only in Linux and affects all Vavoom versions tested including latest svn.

The speed shouldn't vary depending on the renderer used, are you sure about this? I've played many custom maps with different render modes and never had any problems myself.

yeah, i'm sure. I'm working on a map and using vavoom to test it. When I make changes in the map and run vavoom without -opengl switch it takes much longer to build GWA (like 30 seconds) than if I make a similar small change and run with -opengl flag (takes like 1 second).

Yes, I should have mentioned I am running Linux (Ubuntu 7.04) and that this bug has been present on every version of Vavoom I have tested including latest svn. As I said, it's very strange that it depends on the render mode used, maybe the software renderer takes is slower somehow?

It's updating of the progress bars that's making it slow.
